The bag lining and the changing pad are in a

slightly smaller pattern on a white background.

My favorite part is how the back seam lined up.

This fabric was made for pattern matching!

two cloth-diaper clutches

Lately, I have had several

requests for diaper clutches

of the cloth-diaper variety.

I have sewn up a couple, and 

they are now available in

my shop!

Both are constructed of Michael

Miller "Poppy" coordinating cottons.

While they differ in the details,

each includes a hidden zip pocket,

a wet bag, and a changing pad.

 

The Bicycle Diaper Clutch

is finally complete!

I started it last year when 

I made a similar one for a friend

who loves to bike ride with 

her husband and was about to have 

a baby boy. I was waiting until 

my labels came in to finish this one.

I hand sewed the label in place

last week. Sewn from Michael Miller

"Bicycles" print in charcoal, turquoise,

and white, this diaper changing clutch 

(for use with disposable diapers) is

wipe-able laminate on the outside

and soft cotton on the inside.

further pattern development

 

I spent a good bit of time last year developing a diaper clutch pattern

that would work well for cloth diapers. In the current stage of

development, I finalized my paper patterns and did another run

as a gift for a friend who recently had a baby. As you can see, I also

figured out how to rivet leather for the handle. How fun is that?

The interior of this bag has a zip pocket for keys and the like,

not a built-in wet bag. Turns out if the wet bag is internal,

the whole clutch has to be washed on a regular basis.

Instead, I included a couple of separate wet bags which can

be easily laundered and also clip onto the bag handle if desired.

I guess now it's time to sew one up for the ol' etsy shop!

final product: cloth-diaper clutch

 As I mentioned in my last post, I spent some time in May

developing a pattern for a diaper clutch designed to work

specifically with cloth diapers. Here's the final product,

which is a gift my friend Hannah commissioned for her sister Amy.

 To help keep things shut in the face of additional width,

I put in magnetic snaps toward the two ends of the flap

rather than just one set in the middle. 

Isn't this Heather Bailey coordinating fabric just yummy?!

There's also a waterproof changing pad

backed in lining fabric that gets tucked in there.

So far, I'm quite happy with how this bag turned out!

Amy, I'd love to hear any feedback once you

have that precious baby and start using your clutch!

latest diaper clutches

 Here are the latest diaper clutches I've made -- 

gifts for friends with brand new (adorable!) baby boys.

I know the fabric's not boyish, but who's carrying 

the clutch anyway?

 This is the first I've made out of upholstery.

I don't know if I'll do that again. It was difficult to

get through all the layers at some points, and 

the fact of having to cut the curves makes the 

rounded edges more prone to fraying.

This one is made of cotton quilter's batik. 

bright diaper clutch

 This diaper clutch was ordered up by a friend as a 

gift for someone whose baby room is decorated in

red, orange, and black. Fun, festive colors -- but 

hard to find together in a single fabric! This was 

the only piece I could find, but it sewed up beautifully

into a diaper clutch. My favorite element, however,

is the sparkly black button at the middle of the flower.

 Here's the inside front, with a peek of the lining fabric.

 And the front flap all lined up to match. Fun!!

diaper clutch for laura

I've enjoyed sewing up these diaper clutches as gifts lately --

this one is for my husband's sister-in-law, whose baby is due

soon. Congratulations, Laura and Wes!!

It's so fun to see the effect that different fabrics have.

My favorite bit on this rendition is how the fabric pattern 

on the flap lines up with the body of the bag underneath.

And here's a peak at the liner fabric. Isn't that just yummy?!

diaper clutch

I just made my first Grab'n'Go Diaper Clutch, and I love 

how it turned out! It sewed up easier than I expected and

has lots of fun details. Also, isn't this fabric fabulous?! Yum!
